DA Arrears Update: Good News For Central Employees, Will Get 18 Months’ Arrears

Consequently, government has not done much differently from last year to have big decisions taken continuously this year for central employees. Once approval of 8th pay commission has come, there is bumper tax exemption and now the big update is on dear allowance hike and pending DA arrears. Truly, this is the year keeping great for central employees with update after update. Moreover, it has come as a big update for one crore central serving and retired employees.

Currently Getting 53% DA

On October, the recent increase in dearness allowance for central government employees was announced. This will take effect from July 2024. Now in the month of July, 53 percent dearness allowance is given in the salary of government employees who are working under the central government. From the recently announced entire budget 2025-26 presented by the central government, every month from January, the central employees and pensioners are going to have good news about dearness allowance. The small officers to big officers are going to benefit from this scheme. It is expected that along with this, the employees will also be given just over 18 months’ dues. 

Updates On The Pending DA Arrears Of 18 Months 

Shiv Gopal Mishra, Secretary of the National Council of Joint Consultative Mechanism for Central Employees, sent a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He demanded reinstatement of the pending 18 months DA dues, withheld before the Corona epidemic, from prior days and restated the demand of central employees along with pensioners before the government. However, it would be interesting to see what government decides in this. As such, government seems to have an idea in not releasing it in parliament.

Pending 18 Months’ DA Arrears 

The Central Government revises the dearness allowance of the employees twice every year. However, between January 2020 and the latter half of June 2021, the Central Government had placed a hold on the dearness allowance on account of the financial instability due to the Corona period. Employees constantly have demands for it to be released. In light of the above, it will be interesting to see if another big decision is taken by the government.
